That’s right! It’s here faster than I expected!
MakerBot Industries brings to us affordable 3D printers which would allow people to create almost any plastic object.
CupCake CNC is the company’s main product. It is made from a fully open source design that can be freely downloaded, and the CupCake takes digital design files as its input and produces 3D objects by building up layers of plastic.
The machine is sold as a flat-pack kit that can be assembled by two people in a couple of days.
The best part is that it can even make its own replacement parts! (But how’d you know which part you’d need and when? hmm)
You can create your own designs from scratch using CAD software, or download a design file from Thingiverse, an online repository for the sharing of open source MakerBot designs.
3D printers usually cost tens of thousands of dollars.
Surprise surprise! The CupCake CNC kit is going for only USD 750.
It’s even cheaper than a 2.13 GHz, 128 SSD, 2GB RAM Macbook Air.
(hmm maybe i can make one using the CupCake CNC……..)
