Local newspaper Straits Times launched a new service (on 08/08/08!) aimed at providing news different from what’s available on print editions.

From Monday to Friday, ST RazorTV will offer eight hours of news and lifestyle programmes broadcast live from a TV studio at the Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Multimedia Centre in Toa Payoh North.
Viewers of www.razor.tv will also have access to on-demand news videos that give them the flexibility to choose the type of news they want to see, when they want to see it.
ST RazorTV will offer greater interactivity as viewers will be able to call in or SMS their comments while a show is on.
Spearheaded by Digital Media editor Felix Soh, ST RazorTV will present news and lifestyle features in an informal, talk-show format.
ST RazorTV editor Eugene Leow said the focus will be ‘hyperlocal’ – very local – issues and the team aims to strike a conversation with its viewers.
‘Each day we’ll look at the news or what’s on the minds of Singaporeans and just talk about it,’ he said.
‘Unlike conventional television, we won’t tell you the news. Our position is, we’re ordinary folk talking to real people about issues and things that affect our lives.’
Even international news will take a local perspective, to help Singaporeans understand the relevance of news elsewhere.
ST RazorTV will be put out by a team of a dozen multimedia journalists but will draw on journalists of The Straits Times who will appear to give their take on issues in the news.
It will also feature user-generated content from SPH websites such as Stomp.
Some of the shows that viewers can look forward to include:
Razor Edge: A news programme featuring regular news updates at home and abroad.
Point Blank: A current affairs programme in which presenters will ask questions to help viewers get to the heart of the issues being discussed.
Paper Cut: A summary of the main headlines from major newspapers.
Net Noise: The latest Internet buzz, highlighting what netizens are talking about.
Razor Pop: Entertainment news and gossip, and the latest about movies and music.
R.age: A lifestyle programme on the home, hobbies, fashion and beauty.

RazorTv is also giving away prizes for their ’8 days of giveaways’ promo when you contribute for comments on their show and their content =))

I personally feel that this is one step forward for the Singaporean media – it’s no hidden fact that our media gets censored up pretty much.
I would definitely advocate watching RazorTv! (even though it’s abit amatuerish at times – but to the point)
