I am like a virgin when it comes to having Windows mobile applications on your handphone - so I prolly won't be bothered much whether it's shown on a 2.8" or 3.2" or even a 3.5" as I'm currently still (yes still, lol) using a Nokia N80IE which comes loaded with a 2.1" screen.

Anything that's bigger than 2.1" is going to be a plus (for me that is =))

And I totally agree that the Apple iPhone depends pretty heavily on its very successful branding. No doubt their products are sleek to begin with.

I have thought to myself several times whether to get the MacBook Air and now the iPhone 3G.

But I'm never fully convinced - not to mention I'm not too loaded on the dough to get everything on a whim.

With the unlocking of products - I have no qualms about it, seriously speaking. Unlock away!

That goes together with downloading unapproved 3rd party apps for it.
I don't consider myself a saint when it comes to stuff like these.
After all, open-source projects still produce pretty cool and constantly updated apps for us.

The built-in battery is sucky though - but then again how often do you take your battery out of your phone?

For me, it's just when my Nokia hangs on me and I have to take the battery out to manually restart it, or to change my SIM card.

But I guess the iPhone's structured in a way that you don't need to meddle with the battery to restart your hanged phone or to change out your SIM card.

Let's just say your batteries last you for 2 years - considering the probability that your battery died on you nearing a year's usage and you got to replace it in time then it lasts again for another year.

You have to replace it after 2 years then, and it would cost you about USD86. You get to use it (again) for maybe a year.

It's time already to change your phone after 3 years already I guess! Or you can utilise your new 1 year warranty and extend that cellphone life for another year - which makes 4 years.

Currently, the iPhone's coming over to Singapore (where I live, lol), and I'm just waiting for my mobile contract to be due to decide on what to get next.

But if the providers here price the iPhone at astronomical prices - I might just go ahead and ship one over from the States and then proceed to unlock it. Current market rate should be about USD50.

Or simply the Nokia N95.

My choices initially were just the iPhone (I'm way attracted by its large screen and sharp colours) and the Nokia N95 (Yes, I know its old..but it has everything I want! Just no touch-screen)

Now I might consider the HTC Diamond too. We'll see how that goes...

http://www.phonemag.com/blog/wp-content/gallery/htc-diamond-hands-on/phonemag-htc-diamond-23.jpg

The iPhone in this group picture from PhoneMag (together with OMNIA and Diamond) is undeniably eye-catching with its vibrant colours.

Who knew choosing phones can be so tough?

But then again if you realised, phone manufacturers will just come out with phones that are kinda "short-changed" in order to milk consumers for what they are worth and to invest the money in coming up with more innovative technologies - which will come out years after they are finalised in their labs.

I'm pretty sure Apple has no problem inserting a 10MP camera in their iPhones now.

They only have to wait till the day a 10MP camera becomes affordable enough for sensible pricing of products and that they have already milked all that's there for eg. i.e. 3MP, 5MP, 8MP; in order for these technology to be able to trickle down to the masses (read: us).

Consumerism at its best. =) Live with it.

windows mobile apps do not support iphone dude.... majority of windows mobile apps are designed for 320x240 screens (2.8") which contradicts with the omnias' screen resolution.....

iphone seriously is a piece of crap that survives heavily on it's branding...... to add on your point, it does not support videos recording of any sort and the camera is as bad as those 1st gen nokia cameras in the past.......

legal 3rd party iphone apps are payable unless u unlock it which terminates your warranty with apple, plus the apps are not approved by apple - so download it at your own risk -....... built in battery is yet another fustration....... battery dies and you go running for help to apple which only provides you with 1 year warranty - $$ for your new batteries and servicing?

htc diamond fits the bill but lacks of expandable memory slot, just as in the iphone........ when can there be one perfect phone then?

That might be true.
In anyways, it would definitely look nicer with iPhone's larger 3.5" screen.
But what I dislike about iPhone is that their camera is just a mere 2 MP - which is too bad IMOH.
