Trender Bender’s founder, trend forecaster and record label exec Axel Moline, has always supported democracy in fashion.
Moline envisioned a site where fashion lovers from around the world could share inspiring photos, connect with other like-minded users and, ultimately, use their own powers of selection to collectively drive trends.
Trender Bender is the embodiment of this concept, and its success is already clear—since launching in late 2007, the site has attracted more than 10,000 unique users who are uploading photos from Europe to Iran to Cameroon, and a content-sharing deal with MySpace Fashion in Australia is in the works.
Trender Bender is also proving a valuable resource for style industry insiders, who are using it as a one-stop shop for trendspotting and inspiration. In the coming months, Moline and business partner Dave Bolton plan to launch a subscription service for such tastemakers, providing data on emerging trends based on users’ top scrapbook picks.
So if you’re dying for that cropped bomber jacket you keep seeing on the Parisian street style blogs, get tagging—your vote may just help bring it to a boutique near you.
